Local Restaurateur named President of Pennsylvania Restaurant Association

Joseph DiSalvo of DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant
Earns Top Industry Title

Harrisburg, PA -- Joseph DiSalvo, owner of DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant in Latrobe, will be appointed president of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association (PRA) next month.  The PRA will install its 2008 officers at its Annual Membership Meeting and Awards Dinner on November 4-5, which will celebrate the organization’s 70th Anniversary.  This prestigious honor is befitting of DiSalvo, a member of the PRA for the past 13 years.

In 1999, DiSalvo was named Restaurateur of the Year by the Western Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, and again by the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Culinary Federation in 2002.

Likewise, DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. It was selected as one of only 11 restaurants in the nation “Most Worthy of a Destination Stop” by the Culinary Institute of America and as one of the top 20 restaurants in Pennsylvania by “Server” magazine.

DiSalvo is a strong advocate of giving back to the community his business has thrived in.  “Taste the Good Life”, the largest bi-annual charity fundraising event in Pennsylvania, has become the trademark event at DiSalvo’s.  The event is held every spring and fall (next event October 18), with a different charitable organization selected as recipient of donations each time.  DiSalvo’s has also participated in DiRoNA Week, a restaurant week launched by the Distinguished Restaurants of North America and the Share Our Strength Foundation to fight childhood hunger.

Mr. DiSalvo is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Florida International University. He serves concurrently on the Board of Directors for the PRA, the Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute and as Board Member and Marketing Director of DiRoNA.

As incoming President of the PRA, DiSalvo’s wish is to unify and bring new light to the association.  “Restaurateurs statewide need to work together to further develop their current infrastructure and communication and to bring new members on board.  In the constantly changing restaurant environment, it is important that PRA members are engaged, involved and ready to adapt to changes in the industry.  Participation from all members is needed,” states DiSalvo.

DiSalvo, with his strong passion, aspires to bring fine dining “to the next level for the good of all involved.”

For more information on attending this event, please contact Heidi Howard at the PRA, prior to October 29, 2007.
